Cashmere World Makes Strong Debut in Hong Kong

Cashmere World had a successful debut in Hong Kong, benefiting from the presence of important international buying offices in the city and enjoying the synergy with collocated fair, Fashion Access.

This highly specialised, boutique fair focuses on cashmere-based products including yarns, fabrics, garments, knitted sweaters, fashion & lifestyle accessories, components & accessories, processing chemicals & dyes, as well as machinery.

Majority of the exhibitors were Chinese suppliers of raw materials as well as major fashion brands like Zhejiang’s Springair Textile Group, the largest sweater manufacturer and supplier in East China and Viction, which produces its top quality collections in Linhe, Inner Mongolia.

Mr. Bian Zhenhu, president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products (CFNA) who are the coorganisers of the fair along with UBM Asia Ltd, remarked, “As a major international trading hub, Hong Kong brings even more opportunities for the Chinese cashmere business as it provides a fitting venue for the world to learn more about this noble fiber.”

Exhibitors, too, had only positive words about Cashmere World’s move to Hong Kong, agreeing that it resulted in greater exposure to international markets and provided better promotions for the cashmere industry.

Leading cashmere producers from Italy and Mongolia were also enthusiastic about Hong Kong bringing a fresh and bigger audience for their raw materials and fashion collections.

Buyer Turnout Exceeded Expectations

Close to 2,000 buyers from 50 countries were on hand to view the cashmere products on offer. Hong Kong registered the biggest number of visitors with 942, followed by China, 500, and Japan, 114. Rounding out the top 10 countries with the most buyers registered were from Australia, India, Italy, Korea, the Russian Federation, Taiwan, and the USA.

The rise in visitor numbers compared to Cashmere World’s last run in Beijing in 2011 is a testament to the presence in Hong Kong of a large number of international buying offices of major global fashion brands, making it a more viable venue for the fair.

Cashmere Fashions on the Runway

Some of the trendiest cashmere garments and accessories from 8 Cashmere World exhibitors were put on show at the DressUp! fashion presentations that are regular features of the collocated Fashion Access fair.

These were presented alongside the bags, footwear and fashion accessories of Fashion Access exhibitors, resulting in more cohesive and interesting shows that were well-received by visitors.
